There are rubber band-like ligaments that connect a tooth’s root to the bone and connects adjacent roots to each other. These ligaments play a scientific role in tooth movement. THEY ARE ALSO A REASON WHY WE NEED TO WEAR RETAINERS WHEN BRACES ARE TAKEN OFF…Just like a pulled rubber band that can be shot across a room, a pulled ligament has memory that will try to pull a tooth back to it’s original position. Retainers need to be worn to give these ligaments time to get use to their new position!!!
